Medical Acupuncture
There are several of our Osteopaths who work with Medical Acupuncture to help their patients. It is used in combination with osteopathic techniques to help patient’s symptoms.
What sort of conditions respond to acupuncture?
Acupuncture is effective in a range of painful conditions and is commonly used for short-term relief of chronic low back pain and neck pain and can help with the management of knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. There is good evidence that it is effective in the short term relief of tension type headaches, lower back pain, migraines, jaw pain, neck pain and of temporary joint pain.
The list is limited by the current rules governing advertising and how they are interpreted. If you have a question about the possible role of acupuncture in a specific medical condition please contact the clinic for advice.
What is involved in having medical acupuncture?
Every patient will have an initial assessment, followed by a course of treatment suitable for the condition. The treatment timeframe varies on the condition/symptoms the patient is experiencing and how long they have experienced symptoms, and if there is any coexisting conditions. However, if the practitioner feels that your condition cannot be treated with acupuncture, you will be recommended to see your GP or appropriate specialist.
The treatment itself involves fine needles being inserted through the skin and briefly left in position. The number of needles varies on the body part being worked on.
Who will give the medical acupuncture treatment ?
Our medical acupuncturists are all Osteopaths, who have completed a 4 year degree, with additional training in acupuncture. Our osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).
Our acupuncturists and premises are registered with West Northamptonshire Council.
