Podiatry/Chiropody
What is a Podiatrist?
Podiatry (also known as Chiropody) is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the foot and lower limb. A Podiatrist/Chiropodist is someone who has taken a university degree in this subject. As a healthcare practitioner, they are regulated by, and have to be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
They work with people of all ages and can help to keep older and disabled people more mobile. During our lifetime our feet walk many miles and are often the most neglected part of our body. Problems such as verrucas, calluses and corns can be very common and such conditions should be expertly dealt with.
How can a Podiatrist help me?
A Podiatrist can relieve pain, treat infection, aid mobility and give advice to patients. They can help you no matter how old you are.
What do we treat?
Routine treatments – For corns, calluses, cracked heels, painful nails, verrucae and foot deformities such as bunions and hammer toes.
Nail Surgery – A permanent solution of ingrown toe nails or a thickened toe nail under local anaesthetic.
Biomechanics – This is the assessment of the lower limb and foot in order to treat conditions such as heel, knee and back pain, plantar fasciitis, aching legs, Morton’s neuroma and metatarsalgia. These complaints can be treated effectively with the use of pre-moulded orthotic devices and exercise.
